As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the modern wine department in London by the late Michael Broadbent M.W., we are delighted to present The Distinguished Cellar of an American Connoisseur. Offered in our live sale at Rockefeller Center in New York on October 23rd this is a collection assembled over decades. Our collector has enjoyed many of the world’s greatest wines with friends and family at the many dinners he has hosted. Dinners which included a memorable 1961 retrospective kicking off with Krug 1961 moving onto both Palmer and Mouton Rothschild and finishing with the outstanding trio of Haut Brion, La Mission and Latour – what an evening that must have been ! Another memorable evening included a celebration of the 1959 vintage, comparing Richebourg and La Tâche from the Domaine and from Bordeaux Haur Brion, La Mission, Latour, and Mouton Rothschild – a fine evening indeed.
Of the many highlights the sale includes a roll call of the world’s greatest wines, Château Latour 1961, Mouton Rothschild 1945, La Mission Haut Brion 1961 from Bordeaux, classic vintages of Romanée-Conti and rare, mature vintages from Domaine Leflaive. Elsewhere the sale includes one of the most comprehensive collections of Guigal’s La La’s to appear at auction including many full cases. The Southern Rhône is also represented with rare vintages of Château Rayas including 1990, 1989 and 1978. The sale includes classic wines from Italy featuring Sassicaia 1985 in both bottle and magnum. The New World is also represented with fifteen vintages of Penfold’s flagship Grange back to 1966. Singleton, The Magnificent Private Cellar of Lenoir M. Josey, The Tawfiq N. Khoury Collection, The Steven Verlin Collection, Grand Cru Part II and Direct from the cellars of Château Latour.
