Aynhoe Park - A Modern Grand Tour
Sale Overview
Ayhnoe Park, with its magnificent interiors by Sir John Soane, is home to the collector James Perkins, whose vision and flair have seen the house brilliantly restored to its former glory. Aynhoe Park – A Modern Grand Tour encapsulates the spirit of the Grand Tour; illustrating the dramatic mise en scène created by James and his collection and incorporating selected works from the collection of Andrew Lamberty. Classical sculpture sits harmoniously alongside contemporary art and taxidermy, vividly juxtaposing the modern with the 18th century, all set against the magnificent backdrop of Aynhoe Park.
The sale includes a wide variety of works ranging from 20th century and contemporary design, such as works by Ado Chale and Piero Fornasetti and photographs by Bob Carlos Clarke, to monumental classical plaster casts, Old Master pictures and 18th century furniture. The public view will be held in the dramatic surroundings of Aynhoe Park, Oxfordshire from Friday, 5 October until Monday, 8 October (entrance by catalogue only, admits two). The sale will take place the following day at Christie's South Kensington.
