Evolution of Form: African & Oceanic Art at the Genesis of Modernism

Sale Overview
As the first sale of its kind in four years from the African & Oceanic Art department at Christie’s New York, we are pleased to announce that keystone works of art will be offered during our 20th Century Week auctions.
Each work within the concentrated selection of 11 lots identifies with themes of classical African and Oceanic art that both ignited and continue to engage with the threads of Modern art. An underlying cohesiveness follows based on affinities of form, connecting the African & Oceanic Art, Post-War and Contemporary Art and Impressionist & Modern Art departments.
The 11 lots will be seen throughout the various galleries that host the Post-War and Contemporary Art and Impressionist & Modern Art viewings. We look forward to welcoming you to our Rockefeller Center galleries on 30 April.
