David Elswood, International Head of Wine Sales, commented, “Today's 100% sold wine sale proves that Asian demand for Bordeaux wines of the finest quality and provenance is alive and well - and we look forward to our next big single-owner collection to be sold in Hong Kong on June 16th.”
Mr. Charles Curtis MW, Head of Wine for Christie’s Asia, added, “The 100% sold sale of Fine and Rare Wine was a resounding success, reaffirming the vitality of the market for collectible wine. Our results confirm the enduring popularity of Bordeaux wine, as bidders from throughout Asia and the rest of the world competed for the exquisite wines on offer. Large format bottles sold particularly well, with the majority of them surpassing the high estimate, marking a change in the collecting habits of Asian collectors. The top lot, a vertical of four 6 litre impériale bottles of Pétrus, did particularly well, achieving in excess of HK$780,000. The entire sale, at more than HK$20,000,000, demonstrates that fine wine remains a popular asset class in uncertain economic times.”
