Christie’s London is delighted to launch the autumn season with a wonderful auction full of vinous treasures.
An extremely rare Masseto collection leads the sale, with every vintage from 1986 to 2020 on offer. 1986 is a pre-release vintage which is labelled ‘Ornellaia Merlot Toscana Vino da Tavola’. Bottles of this vintage are truly unicorn wines. This rare vertical includes bottles, magnums, double-magnums and imperials in excellent condition, with the famed 1997, 2004 and 2016 vintages featuring in various formats.
We are thrilled to present a superb private collection of rare and idiosyncratic wines from a fine Scottish cellar. This collection has been assembled over several decades by a true connoisseur. Wines range from mature vintages of Vega Sicilia, early 20th century Tokaji, the magnificent, age-worthy white wines from Castillo Ygay through to beautiful clavelins of Château Chalon from Jean Bourdy. This collection covers many of the great estates of Europe and showcases vintages that represent the zenith of wine making in many of these great historic regions.
Bordeaux is led by a singular Château d’Yquem vertical from 1920 to 2022. Bottles and magnums of Château Haut-Brion 2000 feature, alongside strong vintages of Châteaux Mouton-Rothschild, Lafite-Rothschild, Latour and Margaux.
‘La Dolce Vita’ is a running theme in this auction, with Italian wines being presented throughout. 1990 and 2003 Tignanello lead a strong offering, with Montevertine’s Le Pergole Torte in various vintages, featuring their glorious Art Deco labels, alongside Bertani’s rare Amarones completing the selection.
