Christie’s is honoured to present François-Xavier Lalanne, Sculpteur | Collection Dorothée Lalanne, which comprises 70 exceptional works by her father, the paradigm-shifting French sculptor François-Xavier Lalanne (1927–2008). The creations of François-Xavier whether ‘Lapin à Vent de Tourtour’ or ‘Très Grand Ours’, both included in the October sale, manifest in their clearly articulated forms the rigour of his vision for an imaginary world. Discover the artistry of François-Xavier Lalanne, whose work shaped 20th-century culture and continues to influence us today.

A special exhibition of this collection, featuring scenography by Simon Porte Jacquemus, is open to the public from 4 to 10 October at our Rockefeller Center galleries.

International Head of Design | Design

Alex Heminway is a Senior Vice President and International Head of Design at Christie’s, New York. In his current role, Mr. Heminway is responsible for the global management of the department, which focuses on twentieth- and twenty-first-century decoratitive arts and design. The department holds multiple annual auctions in its various sale sites including New York, London, and Paris. He oversees business strategy with other sale departments, including Post-War and Contemporary Art. In 2019, after nine years at another international auction house, Mr. Heminway returned to Christie’s, where he began his career in 1993. Prior to this most recent auction experience, Mr. Heminway worked at Cove Landing, Manhattan-based dealers in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century English and Continental furniture, fine art, and sculpture. Prior to that he worked in sales for post-war and contemporary art dealer Gagosian Gallery, Los Angeles, where he also worked on painter Ed Ruscha’s catalogue raisonné. Mr. Heminway has worked in the auction and gallery business in both fine and decorative arts for more than sixteen years between 1993 and the present

Daphné Riou

SVP, Senior Specialist, Head of Americas | Design

Daphné Riou joined Christie’s New York in 2018 as the Head of the Design department.

Prior to joining Christie’s, Daphné worked at Sotheby’s for six years, where she held various positions in the Design departments in Paris, London and finally in New York for four years, where she oversaw the sale of several masterworks and important private collections of 20th Century Design.

Daphné graduated from HEC Paris business school, earning a master in Art & Creation management and studied art history at the Ecole du Louvre in Paris.

She started her career in the auction world working at Christie’s Paris, with the legendary sales of the Château de Gourdon collections which totalized 42 million euros in March 2011.

In her past year working at Christie’s, Daphné oversaw the sale of the 'Pond Lily' Lamp that sold for $3.4M in December 2018, a world record for any work by Tiffany, and the record breaking sale of the cabinet by Eugène Printz and Jean Dunand which sold for $5,496,000 in June 2019.

Capucine Tamboise

Capucine Tamboise

Specialist, Head of Sale | Design

Graduated from Warwick University in Art History and from Essec in Management, Capucine started her career in several international auction houses. In 2014, Capucine joined Artcurial and actively worked on the creation and development of two specialty departments. She was in charge of the organization of Scandinavian Design sales and contributed to obtaining several records for Danish and Finnish designers like Paavo Tynell. In 2023, Capucine returned to Christie’s where she began her career in 2008, as a specialist in the Design department. Her knowledge of the market will be a major asset to continue the development of 20th Century Design sales.
Victoria Allerton Tudor

Victoria Allerton Tudor

Vice President, Specialist, Head of Sale | Design

Victoria Tudor began her career with christie’s in 2008 based in New York. As a Specialist with the Decorative Arts department and a contributing member of the Private and Iconic Collections team, Victoria participated in important sales The Private Collection of President & Mrs. Ronald Reagan (2016); the landmark sale of The Peggy and David Rockefeller Collection (2018); and oversale the single owner sale of affable art and antiques dealer Mr. Joel Chen of JF Chen, Los Angeles, Ca. (2018). The opportunity to celebrate the marriage of antique and 20th century design appeared again as Victoria acted as the head of sale for The Collection of A. Jerrold Perenchio (2020), the concurrent single owner online sales of renowned French interior designer Henri Samuel interiors; and contributed as head of Design in the Sacred and Imperial: The James and Marilynn Alsdorf Collection (2020). In 2021, Victoria joined the Design department as Head of Sale to spearhead the New York calendar of sales for the dedicated department.

In Design, Victoria has lead the team to increased marketshare and exponential growth for the category – through a combination of various owner and single owner sale opportunities. As head of sale for Design and Tiffany sales annually, in addition to key roles in unique opportunities such as Tiffany Masterworks from the Garden Museum: A Private Collection (2022), Victoria has also implemented the first mid-season online auction series Modern Collector beginning in Spring 2022. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Victoria received her Bachelor’s from Bowdoin College in Maine with a focus in Latin American Literature, Spanish Language and International Relations. She has her Colored Stones certification from the Gemological Institute of America and is serving as an auctioneer for Christie’s since 2021.
