Introducing the masters of French mid-century design
Event Date1 October 2013 | Live auction 3574
On 1 October, Christie’s will be offering furniture, works of art and carpets that, only three months ago, were still a part of the Gallery Camoin Demachy, a cornerstone of the antique dealers of the Quai Voltaire. Alain Demachy, who is the epitome of Parisian refinement, ran it for over thirty years with the eye of an architect-decorator. Free-spirited, eclectic and curious, he was always ahead of his time, and the first to marry 18th century French classicism to the artistic movements of the 19th and 20th centuries. He was also one of the first to promote Arts & Crafts furniture, Scandinavian design and all the early European and American movements.
