Historical Wines from the Cellars of Bouchard Père & Fils

Historical Wines from the Cellars of Bouchard Père & Fils

Sale Overview

This December, Christie’s London presents an unparalleled opportunity to acquire wines that define Burgundy’s legacy, direct from the ancient cellars of Bouchard Père et Fils. These historic bottles are among the last remaining examples of magnificent 19th- and early 20th-century wines in existence, emblematic of Bouchard’s most important cuvées. Recently released from the domaine, each bottle has been specially labelled, waxed and Proof-tagged for this auction.

Among the highlights is an exceptionally rare bottle of La Tâche 1886, with élevage from Bouchard, having been bought in barrel in the 19th century. Equally remarkable are Romanée-St-Vivant 1861, Bonnes Mares 1865 and Chambertin, Clos St Jacques 1889 — more than fine wines, these are cultural artefacts, offering collectors a tangible link to Burgundy’s golden age.

The sale also includes iconic wines from the pre- and post-war years of the 20th century, including Musigny 1945, Beaune Avaux 1928 and Chambertin 1915.

White wine selections underscore the remarkable longevity and quality of Burgundy’s greatest whites. Bâtard-Montrachet 1957 reveals the opulence and layered complexity of one of Puligny’s most exalted Grands Crus. Complementing this are Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles 1966 and Les Folatières 1959, two Premiers Crus that speak of precision and mineral-driven elegance. Completing the lineup is Meursault Perrières 1947, a Premier Cru that rivals Grand Cru stature with its tension and remarkable ageing capacity.

Together, these great bottles form a narrative of Burgundy’s evolution through the 19th and 20th centuries. For collectors, this auction represents more than a moment of acquisition — it is an opportunity to be part of the region’s history and future.

Christie’s is honoured to present these treasures in London this December and looks forward to welcoming collectors to our salerooms to celebrate together.
