Impressionist and Modern Art

This month’s auction offers work by a variety of artists such as Gustave de Smet and Rik Wouters who span avant-garde Belgian movements such as Expressionism and Fauvism. The Hague School and later Dutch Impressionism are represented in the sale by painters such as Floris Arntzenius, Hendrik Willem Mesdag, Isaac Israels and painter and photographer George Hendrik Breitner. The Classical Modern movement in Holland is embodied by a beautiful collection of works by Jan Sluijters. Highlights also include a work by Bart van der Leck, a founding member of the De Stijl movement.
