Into Africa: Photographs by Peter Beard

Sale Overview
Following Christie's 2012 sale of Orphaned Cheetah Triptych, 1968, which established a world-record price for the artist, Christie's is pleased to devote a sale specifically to the work of this much-beloved artist. Into Africa: Photographs by Peter Beard will feature 28 extraordinary works of art that illustrate the incredible depth and breadth of Beard's oeuvre, from his well-known images of threatened African animals to his fashion photographs and elaborate diary pages. Highlights include a stunning large-format Tsavo Tusker on the Athi-Tiva River, 1965, which powerfully illustrates the majesty of its elephant subject, as well as Orphaned Cheetah Cubs, Mweiga, Kenya, 1968, which features extensive and colorful handwork by Beard's African collaborators, Mathenge and Kivoi. This sale will be followed directly by Photographs on October 3rd.
