Virgilio Garza

Virgilio Garza was born in Monterrey, Mexico and has lived in New York since 1995. He has been at the helm of Christie’s Latin American department since 2005. Christie’s leads the market with successful sales that have broken numerous records for modern and contemporary Latin American artists.

Virgilio Garza holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores in Monterrey and a Master of Arts degree from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. In addition to his curatorial experience, he has had former posts at the Museo de Monterrey as well as in a number of in New York galleries. He has successfully led the sales of Latin American Art at Christie’s for the last 12 years achieving landmark prices for the category and numerous auction records for Modern and Contemporary masters.
