Le goût français - Incluant la succession Elie et Inna Nahmias

Sale Overview

The auction will open with 100 lots from the estate of Elie and Inna Nahmias, reflecting their passion for 18th century decorative arts. The influence of architect, interior designer and long-time friend Emilio Terry, who they met at the beginning of the 1960s and admired for his Louis XVII style, is also evident. Elie and Inna Nahmias often consulted Terry on buying decisions, notably between 1960 and 1963 for the interior of the library at their Paris apartment. The top lot of this collection is a Louis XV writing-table very close to a masterpiece by BVRB discovered in the US and now in Versailles. In ormolu-mounted Japanese lacquer and dating from the mid-18th century, the piece is decorated with lake and mountain landscapes and bronze foliage. Further highlights include an oval parcel-gilt grisaille enamel platter and a rare Flemish parcel-gilt and enamel king collar from The Guild of Saint George both from the Rothschild collection, and an 18th century Marseille (Savy) faïence composite part dinner service painted with the famous fish pattern known as ‘à la bouillabaisse’.
