Sale Overview
The sale will begin with a section dedicated to travelsand explorations, which will include two atlases from the 17th and 18th centuries. It will be followed by several works devoted to the Age of Enlightenment from the library of late Professor Pierre Lalive d’Epinay: Condillac, Diderot, Voltaire and mainly Rousseau with a very fine copy of Du Contrat social in its contemporary binding and two autograph manuscripts. Within the manuscripts section, Proust will be the guest of honour with many unpublished autograph letters, several of which addressed to his secretary and long-time friend Albert Nahmias. Among the selection of 19th and 20th century books will be two first editions of legendary texts of French literature: Le Rouge et le noir by Stendhal and Les Trois Mousquetaires by Alexandre Dumas, each in its contemporary binding. Lastly, 4 books illustrated by Zao Wou-Ki will close the sale.
