Renato Pennisi, Head of Sale, Milan Modern and Contemporary, commented: We are pleased with the results achieved in our annual “Milan Modern and Contemporary”, which - having fetched over €20 million - qualifies as the highest result ever realised at an auction in Italy. The solid catalogue was obtained by tightly curating a rigorous selection of works, all of which were offered for the first time at auction and each coming from a variety of private collections. Active participation from collectors occurred on both national and international levels, with competitive bidding happening across 15 different countries. These results confirm Milan’s active and international presence as a key platform to buy and sell quality works of art, and also confirms the global demand for Italian art. Fours new world records were achieved and we are particularly pleased with those realized with Lucio Fontana’s ceramic Chimney ‘Caminetto’ (€1,450,200) and for the ‘Il Viaggio della Luna’ by Fausto Melotti (€606,000).
