Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale

Sale Overview

The Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale realised £3,216,250 /$5,178,162/€3,943,122 and was 57% sold by lot and 69% sold by value.

The top lot was Antonio Joli (Modena 1700-1777 Naples), The Bacino di San Marco, Venice, with the Punta della Dogana and San Giorgio Maggiore which sold for £133,250/ $214,532/ €163,364.

Clementine Kerr, Specialist, Head of Day Sale: “This sale saw Dutch and Flemish works perform particularly well. The top ten lots - comprising Italian, Flemish, Dutch and British works -  also demonstrate the continuing breadth of taste amongst our collectors, who remain hungry for the best and rarest works on the market. We were particularly pleased with the result achieved by the cover lot (141) which sparked competitive bidding and fetched £103,250, far exceeding its attractive pre-sale estimate. We now look forward to the Old Master & Early British Drawings & Watercolours on 6 December at Christie’s South Kensington.”
