Old Masters, 19th Century Paintings and Drawings from a Private Collection: Selling without Reserve

Old Masters, 19th Century Paintings and Drawings from a Private Collection: Selling without Reserve

Sale Overview

We are pleased to present an enthralling selection of Old Master and 19th Century Paintings and Drawings from a private collection which will be offered entirely without reserve.

Scandinavian paintings in the collection are led by one of Vilhelm Hammershøi’s most accomplished portraits. Exceptionally detailed Danish interiors by Julius Exner sit alongside a more impressionist rendering by Carl Holsöe. Ernst Josephson offers an insight into Swedish interiors, whilst August Strindberg turns his attention to blossoming nature. Norwegian art is represented by Peder Balke.

The Old Masters comprise a range of portraits, landscapes, mythological and history subjects, from Italian, British, Dutch and Flemish artists. Notable highlights include a view of Carisbrooke Castle by John Martin, an early Constable moonlit landscape with Hadleigh Church, and a rare work by the 17th-century Antwerp artist Vincent Malo, depicting a Bacchanal with Silenus.

Selling without reserve, the works are united in their accessibility and universal appeal, both in theme and price point.
