‘I think we have some of the best photographers in the world’: why London is getting a new gallery for British photography

Christie’s will hold on 10 November it’s Photographs auction, focusing on 20th and 21st century photography. 130 works will be presented by masters such as Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin and Constatin Brancusi as well as contemporary artists like Wolfgang Tillmans, Thomas Ruff, Hassan Hajjaj and Zanele Muholi.
Some of the most famous and iconic images from the 20th century are present; images from the magnificent series La Passante du Siècle by Richard Avedon staring Stephanie Seymour coming from the Egoïste Collection, Helmut Newton’s Elsa Peretti as a Bunny, as well as prints from Irving Penn’s celebrated Small Trades series.
Finally, the Photographs Department is pleased to present a rare vintage photographs signed by Constantin Brancusi, a beautiful vintage print by August Sander, as well as a colourful portfolio by Robert Heinecken.
