Sale Overview

Christie’s winter Russian Art sale boasts an impressive selection of works sourced chiefly from private collections. Session I features a group of works by Martiros Sarian, Vasili Shukhaev and Boris Kustodiev from the collection of the Nobel laureate Peter Kapitza (1894–1984) as well as a vibrant depiction of a young peasant woman by Abram Arkhipov, Albert Benois’s illustrated correspondence and a portrait of Grand Duke Nicholas, later Emperor Nicholas I (1825–55) by George Dawe.

In Session II important works by Fabergé with royal and imperial provenance are offered alongside rare groups of Russian porcelain and silver. Highlights include an important collection of Fabergé from the Royal House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and an exceptional group of porcelain figures from the ‘Peoples of Russia’ series.
