Sale Overview
An exceptional selection of 35 coral objects from the collection of the March family, one of the most important collecting dynasties in Spain, will be offered in this auction. Mostly dating from the 17th century, they were made in Trapani, Sicily. The sale also includes this relief; probably made by the young Giovanni Battista Foggini, it is the third known of a series depicting scenes from the Old Testament. Further highlights include this 13th century enamel book from Limoges, which originally decorated the front of a liturgical book. Finally, a mother-of-pearl basin and ewer from Gujarat, India will be presented – both prestigious objects which used to be in the most important princely collections in Europe. These naturalia come from the historical seat of the earls and dukes of Atholl, Blair Castle, Blair Atholl, Scotland, where they were exhibited until very recently.
