The sale was led by the magnificent “Bronze Figure of Hercules Pomarius” by Willem Danielsz. Van Tetrode, which realized $2,045,000. The selection of clocks, which was the impetus for Guggenheim’s collection, was met with enthusiastic bidding. Many top lots sold above their estimate, such as the German Engraved Gilt-Brass And Copper Striking And Automaton Lion Clock, by Philipp Miller, which sold for $965,000 against a low estimate of $150,000.
