Christie’s is proud to present one of the most comprehensive offerings of modern-day Burgundy to come to market: The Cellar of an Obsessive Collector. From a hugely passionate and knowledgeable wine lover, this spectacular single-owner collection represents a small glimpse into a much larger collection. A pioneer of wine collecting in Hong Kong, this is someone that very much focused on his own tastes and purchased in variety and depth. The focus was always on provenance and getting to know the people behind the wines and building these relationships, to understand the wines and future trends was key. Much of what is offered was either purchased direct or from the local distributor.
This cellar presents an exceptional spectrum of Burgundy, spanning more than 50 vintages and featuring over 80 producers -- both revered icons and rising stars. Names such as Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, Armand Rousseau, Claude Dugat, Clos de Tart, Coquard Loison Fleurot, Lamarche, Georges Lignier, Jadot, Méo-Camuzet, Ponsot, Sylvain Cathiard and Yann Durieux reflect the collector’s uncompromising focus on quality across grands crus, premier crus, and village wines. Highlights include a rare original wooden case of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg 1989 and an assortment 2008; Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1993 and Clos de Vougeot 2007 in original wooden cases; and Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin 2007 in original carton.
Classic Bordeaux adds further depth, with numerous lots in original wooden cases from Château Lafite Rothschild, Latour, Ausone, and Angelus. Large formats, including imperials of first and second growths such as Lafite, Margaux and Cos d’Estournel 2009 purchased En Primeur, are also on offer to ensure impeccable provenance.
Champagne is represented by Bollinger, Dom Pérignon, Louis Roderer Cristal and Philipponnat, Clos des Goisses. There is also a small Rivesaltes selection from Sisqueille and Prieuré du Monastir del Camp from the 1930s-1940s, and rare bottles of Sercial Reserva Madeira 1862.
This sale provides a rare opportunity for wine enthusiasts to acquire wines of impeccable provenance, outstanding condition, and global significance which is a testament to a collector whose relentless pursuit of excellence has resulted in one of the most compelling offerings to come to market.
