We are delighted to announce two exceptional sales of Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy, and Fine Chinese Modern and Contemporary Ink Paintings. These auctions will take place on 27 and 28 November respectively, offering extraordinary selections from esteemed private collections worldwide. The sales will feature collections amassed by celebrated connoisseurs, including “Formerly from the C. C. Wang Family Collection”; “Lin Fengmian Paintings from the Van Roosbroek Family Collection”; “Collection of Prof. L. Y. Chiu, former Dean of Arts Faculty, HKU”; and “The Chinese Painting Collection of Harold Wong”.
Christie’s is also excited to present a total of four live auctions of Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art on 29 November during our inaugural Asian Art Week. These sales will present important and rare collections from around the world, with a combined low estimate for the four sales totalling over HK$350 million.
Christie’s is privileged to join hands with Grace Wu, crowned by collectors as the ‘Queen of Huanghuali’, to present a dedicated auction of “Eternal Ming — Treasures from The MQJ Collection” to take place on 29 November. The sale will offer an exquisite selection of 15 exceptional and rare pieces from the MQJ Collection, featuring the finest and rarest examples of huanghuali furniture among all categories of Ming furniture.
Following the remarkable successful sale of the Palmer Family Collection in May 2023, Christie’s is honoured to further present “Masterpieces of Chinese Art from the Palmer Family Collection”. Amassed over 90 years across multiple generations, this collection includes examples of classic Ming blue and white and Imperial Qing porcelain, jade carvings, and metalwork – all acquired from the most distinguished dealers and auction houses in London in the early 20th century.
The single-owner collection, “Cosmic Essence — Archaic Jades from the Lantien Shanfang Collection” presents 75 lots of remarkable archaic jades exhibited in the “1999 Collectors' Exhibition of Archaic Chinese Jades” at the National Palace Museum, Taipei, which have never been seen by the public since then.
To wrap up Asian Art Week, the Important Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art auction will present more than 150 extraordinary lots, spanning from Western Zhou to the Republic period. Offerings are derived from multiple categories, ranging from Song ceramics, Ming and Qing Imperial porcelain to lacquers, Chinese classical furniture, Imperial seals, and scholar's objects — all with notable provenance and sourced from renowned private collections worldwide.
