The Collection of Richard Mellon Scaife

Sale Overview
Gemma Sudlow, Vice President, Specialist Head of Private and Iconic Collections and Elizabeth Wight, Head of Sale, commented: “The results of The Collection of Richard Mellon Scaife prove the market for all genres of decorative arts continues to be strong – especially for the finest examples as presented in the sale. Top prices were achieved throughout with many lots far exceeding their high estimates due to competitive bidding on the phone, in the room, and online. Particularly exciting was the price realized for the Two English Porcelain Dessert Services from the 19th century which sold for $68,750 - nearly 20 times its high estimate of $3,500. The top lot of the sale, a South German Ormolu-Mounted Ebony, Ebonized and Pietra Dure cabinet, realized $347,000, demonstrated collectors’ interest in impeccably crafted art. With over 450 registrants from 29 countries, we were honored to be entrusted with Mr. Scaife’s estate and look forward to continuing to achieve top prices for collections.”
