The English Collector - 500 Years: Decorative Arts Europe

Continuing the theme established in the November sale of The English Collector & Tapestries – 500 Years Decorative Arts, this sale focuses on the best of British and Irish furniture and works of art from circa 1700 to the mid-19th century.
The sale includes pieces in a variety of woods from walnut to mahogany, satinwood and giltwood. There are fine examples of cabinetwork and seat furniture from Giles Grendy to Gillows, and precious objects including ormolu work by Matthew Boulton. English and European carpets are also well represented.
Furniture highlights include a pair of ivory-mounted bois satine and marquetry stands attributed to Mayhew and Ince, a gilt gesso side table attributed to René and Thomas Pelletier, supplied in 1705 to the Duke of Leeds, a magnificent giltwood and verre eglomise mirror and companion table from Minterne, Dorset, supplied around 1706 to General Charles Churchill.
Among the many fine clocks included in the sale are an olivewood longcase clock by Edward East and a walnut longcase clock by Thomas Tompion.
