The Glorious Cellar of a European Connoisseur

The Glorious Cellar of a European Connoisseur

Sale Overview

This September Christie’s is proud to present a landmark two-day single-owner wine sale in New York: The Glorious Cellar of a European Connoisseur.

Coming from one of Europe’s most extensive Burgundy wine collections this sale comprises over 1,000 lots and offers a truly remarkable breadth of both red and white Burgundy, spanning the most iconic producers to under-the-radar gems. Highlights include Echézeaux from Emmanuel Rouget 2009 and 2010 in full cases, a rare case of Clos de Vougeot from Prieuré Roch and over 10 vintages of Bonnes Mares from Domaine Georges Roumier. With vintages from the 1990s through to the present day, this truly is a treasure trove for Burgundy lovers.

As well as Burgundy, there is also a stunning selection of Champagne from Krug, Philipponnat and Salon and a selection Rhône including Rayas, Chave’s Hermitage and Guigal’s La La’s. We finish with Icons from Italy including Soldera, Giacosa and Giacomo Conterno.

This is a collector with a highly experienced and educated palate who has amassed this incredible cellar over the last two decades. Inquisitive and eager to learn, they tasted widely and trusted their palate. The intention and design of the collection was to be drunk and enjoyed with friends and family. Vinous delights for the dinner table, wines that tell a story, bottles to be celebrated — across many styles and price points.

The vast majority of lots in the sale were purchased on release from UK agents and stored in perfect condition at Octavian in Wiltshire, England ever since, ensuring perfect provenance. This is just a small part of a much larger collection.

We look forward to seeing you this 25 and 26 September to celebrate this glorious cellar.
