The Martin Feldstein Collection: Dutch Art in the Golden Age

Sale Overview
Christie’s is delighted to present The Martin Feldstein Collection, a remarkable assemblage of Dutch paintings, drawings and prints which was built with great diligence and care over the course of four decades. The core of the collection focuses on the rise of naturalistic landscape painting in the newly sovereign Dutch Republic in the second and third quarters of the seventeenth century. Among the highlights are a rare winter landscape by Esaias van de Velde, an early genre painting by Jan Steen, a beach scene by Simon de Vlieger, a striking moonlit landscape by Aert van der Neer and two early landscapes by Jacob van Ruisdael. In addition to nearly two dozen paintings, the collection includes nearly a dozen works on paper, the highlight of which is a particularly fine early impression of Rembrandt’s Landscape with the Cow.
