‘The Opulent Eye’ offers furniture, sculpture, works of art and clocks from the 19th century. The sale reflects the eclectic and opulent styles of the period from the regal grandeur of Napoleon’s Empire to the Art Nouveau of Belle époque Paris. The lots have been selected for their use of luxurious materials, their rarity and exceptional craftsmanship. With ébénisterie by François Linke, Henry Dasson and Alfred Beurdeley and sculpture by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, Emmanuele Caroni and Valerio Villareale, the sale represents the best furniture makers and sculptors of the period. The sale offers lots with estimates ranging from £2,000 to £150,000. Highlights include a centre table with amethyst quartz by Maison Millet (lot 150), an Italian marble lifesize figure of a Schiava alla vendita by (lot 100) and an impressive ormolu and white marble clock garniture by Houdebine (lot 145).
