Adrian Hume-Sayer, Specialist, Head of Sale commented: “We are very pleased with the strong results of this sale, the pairing of these two very different yet complimentary collections created a fascinating aesthetic. We saw strong bidding throughout the sale which contained works spanning five centuries and covering a broad spectrum of collecting fields. The varied Forte collection and the bold aesthetic of the interior by Françoise de Pyffer, with its juxtaposition of strong contemporary works and traditional European pieces, held particular market resonance; the universal appeal of the content, which offered opportunities at every price level, demonstrated the success of collection sales which weave together works crossing periods, styles and categories but are presented in a unified context. This result also reinforces the continuing demand for unusual pieces of quality with interesting provenance. We now look forward to the sale of ‘The Collection of Sandro & Lidia Orsi, Ca'Mera, Varese and Property from the Villa of an Aristocratic Lombard Family’ at Christie’s South Kensington on 19 July 2012.”
