Henry Moore’s King and Queen led the sale, achieving a world-record £26,345,000. The Art of the Surreal auction realised a perfect 100% sell-through rate by lot and value, setting records for both Dorothea Tanning and Toyen. The top lot from the Vanthournout Collection was Picasso’s Nu debout et femmes assises, which sold for £7,004,000.
The sales continue with the Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale, and Spellbound: The Hegewisch Collection Part II on Saturday 7 March, alongside online sales for Post-War and Contemporary Art and the Vanthournout Collection closing on 11 and 12 March respectively.
Then the focus turns to Modern British and Irish Art which goes on view on 12 March, with live auctions across evening and day sales on 18 and 19 March.
