EAST TURKESTAN, CIRCA 1850
The field comprising five prayer arches, the mottled plum red field of each with a central flowering plant, the cusped indigo mihrab arch with lillies in the spandrels, each with inner key-pattern stripe, in a light blue palmette vine border between chocolate-brown rosette stripes, a short kilim strip at each end, slight wear, small stain and repair, slight touches of repiling
Approximately 10ft.4in. x 3ft.3in. (314cm. x 99cm.)
Warp: white cotton Z5S, considerably undulating
Weft: white cotton Z4-7S, slightly undulating
Pile: wool, Z2S and 2 x Z2S, asymmetrical open to the right, H2.9 x V1.6/cm.
Sides: main weft travels around an additional warp, red wool yarn Z3 wound around this extra warp and one or two of the outermost knotted warps
Lower end: flatwoven with white cotton Z4-7S, uncut fringes twisted together Z
