Katana, the blade honzukuri, iorimune with medium point chu- gissaki with slight curve (torii zori, forging pattern masame and itame with ji-nie, tempered edge of regular midare of nie and sunagashi with chu-maru boshi, tang, slight machi okuri, 59cm.; wakizashi blade honzukuri, iorimune with medium point and slight curve (torii zori), forging pattern ko-itame and tempered edge suguba of ko-nie, boshi rubbed, tang o-suriage with two holes, school of Tadayoshi, 48.8cm.; contained in black lacquer saya with gold laquered aoi mon, fuchi-kashira with bands of daimyo jima nanako, circular iron tsuba engraved with tea ceremony utensils (rusty), one with kozuka, (kurikata of katana mount broken) (2)

Lot Essay

Formerly the property of Lieutenant General Sir John Glubb. They were purchased by his father when stationed in Hong Kong, Sir John Glubb inherited them in 1890's. He died in 17 March, 1986.
