Lot Essay

The design of the panels on this serving table follow a design for a 'Sideboard Table' by Thomas Chippendale illustrated in The Gentleman & Cabinet-Maker's Director, 3rd ed., 1762, pl. LVII.
A serving table with similar panel designs was sold from the Elizabeth Parke Firestone Collection, Christie's New York, 23 March 1991, lot 817.
