Lot Essay

The origins or purpose of this four-headed horse remain a mystery. There appear to be no signs of any fixings to the shell saddle. It could conceivably have been designed to support a large charger, or alternatively as part of a larger centrepiece or trophy. Other suggestions have included some kind of child's toy.
