HOOKER, William (1779-1832). [Pomona Londinensis containing coloured engravings of the most esteemed fruits cultivated in the British Gardens. London: J.Moyes for William Hooker, White, Cochrane & Co. and others, 1813?-1818.]
Volume I (all published), atlas 4° (425 x 337mm). 31 hand-coloured stipple-engraved and aquatint plates only by Hooker (of 49). (Light soiling to first and last leaf.) Unbound as issued within original board portfolio, title printed on upper cover, prospectus on the lower (worn).
The plates are generally in fine condition and are from the deluxe issue which was advertised as: "A few copies in 4to Atlas, highly finished, 1l 15s." The plates were drawn, engraved and coloured by Hooker himself and are described by Dunthorne as 'among the best of all fruit prints'. The work as a whole he calls one 'of the finest... of any country'. Nissen BBI 913; Dunthorne 139.
Together with six plates from, 2 copies of the prospectus to, and 7 copies of the single leaf index to T.A.Knight's Pomona Herefordiensis. The lot sold as a collection of plates, not subject to return. (2)
