Liu Jincheng was born in Beijing and started studying Fine Art in 1975 at the Beijing Art School. In 1982 he studied oil painting and graduated from the Fine Art Department of Beijing Normal College. In the following three years he participated in the China Youth Art Exhibition and the Beijing Modern Art Exhibition at the China National Art Gallery. He travelled extensively throughout Tibet and Gansu, broadening his subject-matter by including Tibetan landscapes and portraiture. In 1989 he moved to England and studied as a post-graduate at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Since then, his works have been included in many group exhibitions, and he has had several one-man shows at the Gagliardi Gallery in London (1992, 1993, 1994) and at the "Pala Gagliardi Exhibition Centre" in Italy. His works were selected for the 1994 Milan International Art Exhibition, and for the 1995 BP Portrait Award Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London. Liu Jincheng's works are in private collections in the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Japan and Hong Kong.
