Born in Hebei Province, Jia Youfu enjoyed painting since his childhood. He entered the Chinese Paintings Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1960 and studied under Li Keran, Ye Qianyu, Li Kuchan and He Haixia. After graduation, Jia was assigned the post of associate professor at the Stage Art Department of the Central Drama Academy and transferred to teach at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1977. Jia had travelled many times to the Taihang Mountain area and it became the main inspiration for many of his works. Concentrating on landscape painting, he paid special attention to realism. His work Tai Hang Mountain - the Great Monument received a Silver Medal at the Sixth National Art Exhibition. His work Breakout was selected for the Seventh National Art Exhibition. In 1988 he exhibited at the National Art Gallery, organized by the National Chinese Artists' Association, staged his one-man show in Taipei, and was awarded the First Prize at the Beijing International Ink Paintings Exhibition. In 1992, Jia Youfu received the "20th Century World Celebraties Achievement Award" from Cambridge, England, and in 1993 he received the "Life-time Achievement Award" from ABI in the United States. Presently, Jia is professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and a member of the National Chinese Artists' Association.
