Further details
'Southern Hero' was a gelding owned by Mr James Voase Rank. He was a very good steeplechaser during the years before the second World War, and is best remembered for winning the Scottish Grand National three times, the last time at the age of fourteen. He also ran several times against 'Golden Miller', and beat him on one occasion when getting considerable weight.
