Mottled greyish-brown lacquer with areas of a chocolate brown patina showing through.

Lot Essay

Louis Garnier, 1638-1728.

The model from which this bronze was cast is known to have existed at least as early as 1699, when another example was bought for Augustus the Strong of Saxony. Numerous other versions are known, often paired with Michel Anguier's Ariadne or his Amphitrite.
