Two pearlware Toby-jugs
Circa 1800
Each modelled holding a jug of frothing ale and smoking a pipe, the first in yellow and brown chintz-pattern frock-coat, blue waistcoat and brown breeches (restored chip and extensive flaking to hat, crack to right cuff and restoration to hand, pipe and thumb lacking); the second identically modelled, in black hat, streaked blue frock-coat, yellow waistcoat and streaked black breeches (pipe lacking, the jug a later replacement and bearing the date 1797, chip to underside of base and tip of fingers, mis-firing to blue enamel), both on foliage-moulded canted rectangular bases
