Lot Essay

The sitter was the eldest son of Mark-Anthony Morgan and his wife Catherine, daughter of Chidley Coote of Coote Hall, Roscommon. He was a Colonel of the 98th regiment of foot and married Elizabeth, daughter and heiress of the Rt. Hon Philip Tisdale, attorney-general and secretary of State for Ireland. His only daughter and heiress, Catherine (d. 1819), married Robert-Stearne Tighe of Michelstown (d. 1835) in 1786.
