Lot Essay

This is a view of the southern side of the Jami Masjid of Jaunpur, where the enclosing cloisters are open to the town. A view within the courtyard of this mosque is the subject of the aquatint Oriental Scenery, vol.III, no.9; the Daniells considered it to be an example of 'the best style of Mahommedan architecture' (Oriental Scenery).
