The rectangular cornice with an arched pierced trellis-cresting centred by strapwork and with later gilt finials, above a pair of geometrically-glazed doors enclosing two shelves, the lower section with three drawers around a rectangular trellis-filled kneehole and on canted square legs headed by pierced fretwork angles, one pane cracked

Lot Essay

The cabinet with its exotic urn-capped and 'pagoda' crest is richly fretted in the mid-18th Century manner popularised by Thomas Chippendale's Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 1754-63, which featured this pattern of glazing-bar (1st ed., pl. LXIII and 3rd ed. pl. XCI).
