Two Meissen models of a Cockerel and a Hen
Circa 1750
Modelled by J.J. Kändler to left and right, the cockerel with iron-red comb and wattles, the body with grey and brown plumage with incised feather markings and long arched tail, the hen with iron-red wattles, brown crest and the incised feathers with brown markings, both standing astride rockwork mound bases applied with flowers and foliage (the first with some restoration to tail feathers, beak, crest and comb, some chips to flowers and leaves on both)

Lot Essay

Kändler's Taxa for December 1742 lists: '1 Hahn und 1 Henne von feiner Grösse welche für die Gräfin Herfort bestellet worden, gehörigermassen zerschnitten und zum abformen gegeben.'
