A pair of Meissen models of swans
Circa 1747, blue crossed swords marks at back
Modelled by J.J. Kändler and P. Reinicke, one with its right wing outstretched, the other with a cygnet on its back and another at its feet, their white plumage incised with feather markings and their eyes and beaks in iron-red and black, standing on mound bases moulded with pale-green reeds and shells (one with restoration to part of left wing)

Lot Essay

Both Kändler and Reinicke are recorded as having worked on this model, see the records for Kändler in November 1747, '2 Modelle zu kleinen Schwanen mit Jungen ausgestellt und in gehörige Positur gesetzet.' and for Reinicke in the same month, '1 Schwahn mit 2Jungen zu vohhergehenden in Thon rein boussiert.'.
