With sloping rim on short foot, the white interior painted in the typical 'Rhodian' colours with a bold sailing ship with square sails, the sea formed of spiralling motifs, a tulip growing from the sea at each side, in a border of blue rosettes alternating with green paired leaves, the underside with alternating green and blue motifs, very slight chips, hair crack
11 3/8in. (28.9cm.) diam.
Provenance
This lot and 19 other Iznik dishes in the sale were purchased in the late 19th Century by an ancestor of the present owner.
