Lot Essay

The Hon. Caroline Stuart (1830-1911) was the fifth and youngest daughter of the 11th Baron Blantyre (see lot 112) and sister of the 12th Baron Blantyre (see lot 109). She married John Charles, 7th Earl of Seafield, K.T. (1815-1881) in 1850. This portrait miniature may well have been painted on the occasion of their marriage.
