A rare papier mache full armour
19th century, probably French
Comprising close-helmet with high roped comb, pivoted two-part visor and gorget plates at front and rear, cuirass with long rounded breast-plate with medial ridge, knee-length laminated tassets incorporating poleyns, greaves and round-toed sabatons, full pauldrons and vambraces with bracelet cowters, and fingered gauntlets with flaring pointed cuffs, simulated roped turns and domed brass rivets throughout, decorated overall with bands of gilt rosettes between narrow borders with geometric designs, on red velvet-covered dummy mounted on a wooden stand

This is an accurate copy of French armour of about 1560 and is a rare survival presumably made for decorative purposes
