Lot Essay

The present drawing is related to the picture exhibited at the 1798 Salon and now in the Hôtel de Ville in Clermont-Ferrand (fig. 1). Monsiau frequently drew finished ricordi of his paintings which were shown next to the pictures in the Salon. In the same Salon of 1798 Monsiau also exhibited a drawing after his Zeuxis choosing a Model.
