The rectangular top with egg-and-dart band above a foliate scrolling frieze flanked by cherubs and above a panelled door with guilloche and chevron pattern centred by foliate scrolls, flanked by herms and above a recess supported by two figures and, inscribed 'CLMS 1674', above a conforming frieze and a further door with foliate scrolls centred by an arched recess with a maiden herm flanked by conforming herms, above a moulded base and on later bun feet

Lot Essay

A related cabinet from Halland, south-western Sweden, with similar applied figures to the base and a headboard from a bed, painted in 1773, with closely related uprights and putti, are in the Nordiska Museet, Stockholm (S. Erixson, Möbler och Heminredning i Svenska Bygder, Stockholm, 1925, p. 153, fig. 239 and p. 63, fig. 89, respectively).
