The circular dial within a moulded ormolu bezel and with silvered Roman chapter ring, inscribed A Paris 1832 on the reverse, with blued steel moon hands and counterpoised sweep centre seconds hand, central revolving enamel disc inscribed with 24 different major cities locations around the world taken from the Paris meridian, [Méridien de Paris] and including Etats Unis Il. du Japon Vienne, their times read from an outer narrow silvered 24-hour chapter ring, the central gilt signature disc signed Chs. Oudin Eve. de Breguet, the movement with massive circular brass plates with four robust pillars pinned at the back and secured with blued steel screws at the front, twin-going barrels, hour and half-hour strike on bell above, the pin-wheel escapement mounted on the backplate with fine adjustment to the crutchpiece for the knife-edge suspended gridiron pendulum with nine steel and gilt-brass rods with a fanned top, the remontoire mounted in front of the pin wheel and operating on a constant force flywheel and counter balance system, the backplate engraved No. 17 - Charles - Oudin Gal. Montpensier, the case with detachable stepped top revealing handles for the sliding front glass and mirrored rear glass, the moulded base with out-set milled brass levelling feet

Lot Essay

Charles Oudin was perhaps best known for his souscription watches which he made to the exacting standards of his master, the great Abraham Louis Breguet. His stay at Galerie Montpensier lasted from 1830-40, a period that was his most productive and during which he occasionally signed some of his pieces Horloger de L.L.M.M. l'Empereur et l'Impératrice de Russie
